Society Christmas Social with Entertainment by Briga and Friends
SOCIETY CHRISTMAS SOCIAL AND TALK
Each year the Society holds a Social just before Christmas which is a chance to get together, reflect on the past years activities and enjoy some entertainment and Christmas cheer.
This year we have a special event when a local speaker, Chris (Christine) Carr, known as Briga and Friends, will tell us about the traditions of Christmas past. Chris’s talk, entitled ‘Lords of Misrule and Boy Bishops – Medieval Christmas Customs’ gives us an interesting insight into how our forfathers, rich and poor, were able to celebrate ring the Christmas period. Lots of good cheer, drinking , wasail, singing and dancing. Thankfully audience participation on the night is not compulsary. Of course this was not for all as Charles Dickens portrayed in his story ‘Christmas Carol’. for more information about BRIGA you can visit their webpage www.brigaandfriends.co.uk. The talk also comes with Figey Pudding and ‘real’ mince pies to give us a taste of medieval food.
Please come along and absorb the spirit of Christmas and afterwards join us in a sport of ‘Good Cheer’ with mince pies (modern versions), other eats and and a glassor two, or perhaps a nice cup of tea or coffee.
To book your place please email David Smith on info@huntslhs.org.uk, or see hm at our November talk The evening is open to members and their guests only. Although there is no charge for the evening any donations will be welcome.
