The Pathfinder Force, History and Legacy, Talk by Jim Blackwood

Jim Blackwood, Curator of the RAF Wyton Heritage Centre and Pathfinder Museum will give us a talk about the history of RAF Wyton and in particular the Pathfinder Force during WWII. This is a preliminary talk prior to our visit to the Heritage Centre and Museum on the 21st October and the 28th October. (All places now fully booked)

Jim Blackwood has almost 20 years’ connection with the Pathfinder Museum, seven of them at RAF Wyton as Officer Commanding and since retirement as a regular volunteer, meeting many veterans over those years and building up an unrivalled knowledge of the force, in particular of the local No 8 Group operations. RAF Wyton has a very long history as an operational flying station since 1916, the period of the Royal Flying Corps before the formation of the RAF. It has seen service in both WWI, WWII, the Cold War period and although the airfield was decomissioned as a flying station in 2018, the station is still playing a vital operational role in the RAF’s Cyber and Specialist Operations, Geostation Intelegence and is the centre of Ministry of Defence Police.

The talk is free to all members of the Society, even if you are not signed up to either of the visits, who wishes to know more about the history of this long established airfield and the distinguished forces who operated there during WWII.

The vening is open to non members of the Society, all we ask is for a donation of £3 per person to help with costs.
